Hi everyone! This is the IRIAM US Team.
We're here with this month's update β let's get into it!
π¬ New Feature: Blocked Words β Hide Specific Words from Your Streams!
Back in our November Dev Diary, we mentioned that we were looking into a way for you to set custom words for your streams. We're happy to share that this feature is finally here!
During a stream, seeing words you don't want to see come through in comments can make what should be a great time feel uncomfortable. To help everyone stream with more peace of mind, we're introducing Blocked Words with this update!
With this feature, in addition to IRIAM's existing filtered words, each Streamer can register words they'd rather not see in their own streams ahead of time π‘
How Blocked Words Work
Streamers can register any word or combination of words in their Block Words settings. When a comment contains a registered word, that word is masked based on the number of characters. The comment itself still appears β only the registered word is replaced.
This looks the same as words that are already filtered across IRIAM, so if you've seen masked words in comments before, the display will feel familiar.
Setting Up Blocked Words
Go to My Page > Blocked Words (near your Moderator settings).
Enter the words you'd like to register, one per line.
Key Details
- Up to 300 words can be registered.
- Each word can be up to 50 characters.
- Matching is not case-sensitive β registering "hello" catches "Hello," "HELLO," and "HeLLo" too.
- To register a combination of words, enter them on the same line without a line break.
- For example, if you register "Big Apple," comments containing "Big Apple" will be masked in your stream β but "Big" or "Apple" on their own will still appear normally.
When Might You Use It?
For example:
- When you want to keep personal information β like your real name or location β from showing up in comments during your streams
- When there are specific words you'd prefer not to see, based on your streaming style or community
You can add or change your Block Words at any time!
We hope this feature helps make streaming a little more comfortable for you.
π± Stream View Update
We've tidied up the stream viewing screen to give more room for what you're really here for β the Streamer, the Gifts, and the Viewers who came to hang out!
More Viewer Icons at a Glance
The number of viewer icons shown at the top of the screen has increased. It's easier to see who's in the stream at a glance, and communication during streams should feel smoother.
A Cleaner Top of Screen
Until now, the stream screen always showed various scores and info at the top of the screen. We've cleaned things up to give you a more immersive experience β more space to focus on the stream itself!
Items like Fan Badge progress that used to live at the top of the screen have moved over to the Stream Info Panel.
We hope the cleaner screen makes streaming even more enjoyable!
π οΈ Bug Fixes & Improvements
Fixed an issue where audio could cut out during long streams
We fixed an issue where audio could cut out or skip during longer streaming sessions.
π·οΈ Heads-Up: Ranking Event Eligibility
Starting in January, we introduced a requirement for Premium Events: your community must have earned 10 Fan Badges in the previous month.
We often compare IRIAM events to climbing a mountain. Premium Events? We think of those as "Everestβlevel" challenges β the kind of climb that only a handful of even the most dedicated climbers attempt!β°οΈ
If a friend who'd never climbed before suddenly told you, "I'm going to climb Everest tomorrow!" β you'd probably say, "Hold onβ¦ maybe Everest isn't quite right yet! How about starting with this mountain instead?"
That's because we believe that the best way to enjoy climbing β and events β is with the right steps along the way. The Fan Badge requirement for Premium Events was our way of building that natural step-up into the system.
Over the past two months or so, the 10-badge requirement for Premium Events has been working quite positively overall.
So going forward, we're planning to introduce similar eligibility requirements for some ranking events beyond just Premium Events.
Specifically, starting in May, some ranking events will require your community to have earned at least 5 Fan Badges in the previous month. (We're thinking of calling these "Challenge Events")
We're also going to focus on building out the mountains in between β the ones between "beginner-friendly" and "Everest" β so there's a great climb for everyone! π»
π·οΈ Coming Up: More Profile Tags!
We're planning to add more profile tags in an upcoming update!
We'll be choosing which tags to add based on your requests β so if there's a tag you'd love to see on IRIAM, please send us a request using the form below:
Last time we added tags, the vast majority of new tags were based on requests from the community! We'd love to hear what profile tags you'd like for yourself, or tags you think other people would use too π
That's everything for this month's Dev Diary!
The Blocked Words feature in this update was developed based on feedback from the IRIAM US community. (And it was implemented simultaneously in IRIAM JP as well β meaning hundreds of thousands of users will start using it!)
As a platform team, we are truly grateful to be building the foundations of streaming and community together with all of you who love IRIAM US.
We want to keep improving the building blocks that help Streamers and Viewers make their streams and communities the best spaces they can be.
See you in next month's update!
